"Song From The Uproar: The Lives And Deaths Of Isabelle Eberhardt" is an opera by Missy Mazzoli about about the Swiss adventurer, Isabelle Eberhard who explored the sands of Northern Africa at the start of the 20th Century.
In 2020, the opera was set to get a restaging for the Soluna Arts Festival in Dallas, TX, by the Verdigris Ensemble, Voices of Change, Sam L. Peugh, and the UTD Lightsquad. This was also the Capstone Project — the final project in order to graduate university — for myself and for my Lightsquad colleague, Pablo Reyes. Our task was to create visuals to serve as the digital set design to project onto the stage for the performance.
Several hours of careful research of the adventurer herself and the world she knew, went into the creation of 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional assets. The art we created help drive the narrative, as well as give a visual representation of the music.
